The Goals of Training
MODULE OUTLINE
MODULE OUTLINE
It's impossible to score a goal if you don't know where the goal posts are. Hence this module aims to start familiarising coaches with where these goal posts as a foundation for subsequent exercise prescription and programming. In this module, we will break down some of the most important athletic physical qualities with a description of what that quality is, what physiological mechanisms are responsible for the quality, and briefly what is required to enhance that physical quality.
We will look individually at the following physical qualities:
- Strength
- Speed
- Endurance
- Coordination
- Mobility
Once we've discussed each of these physical qualities, we will then aim to introduce the concept of an "Athlete Need's Analysis". The need's analysis is a process whereby the specific needs of an athlete and their sport are considered, with the goal of identifying a priority list of physical characteristics to guide exercise prescription. Again, this process aims to set a foundation for exercise prescription which will be built on in subsequent weeks.
