The Right Tool for the Job
This module extends directly from the previous module, where after thorough discussion of the physical qualities that underpin successful sporting movement patterns we broached the topic of the needs analysis. As was discussed, the needs analysis is an extremely useful starting point for exercise prescription, as it identifies exactly what our goals of exercise prescription are. Now that we have begun this needs analysis process for our athletes, the next logical step is to discuss what tools we have at our disposal to address our needs analysis. This module aims to provide some brief background information before introducing a system of analysis to evaluate whether a tool appropriately addresses the goals identified by the needs analysis.
In this module we will discuss some background information including:
- The force-velocity curve
- The specificity-overload trade-off
Following which we will discuss a system of analysis for evaluating how useful an exercise will be for addressing the needs of our athletes
